John’s of Times Square has been voted one of New York’s best pizzas because of its unique characteristics. Sadly, Madeline passed away in 2004, and left John’s of Times Square to her daughter, Lisa Castellotti, and she was determined to finish what her mother started and carry out her vision of creating a pizza empire. Our unique location has hosted Broadway play openings, award ceremonies, album release parties, and a wedding, just to name a few. Since John’s of Times Square’s grand opening, Times Square has come along way. In June of 1997, John’s of Times Square opened its doors while Times Square was still recreating its image to be what it has become today. She had not only constructed the most unique pizzeria, but also the largest pizzeria in the United States. After two years of being hands on in this major construction, Madeline’s vision came to light. Madeline quit her job in Human Resources for a large law firm and put her heart and soul into converting this old church with authentic structure into what she had visualized. Madeline Castellotti knew this would be home to her dream, the most unique pizzeria in the world.Īs a hardworking single mother, Madeline waited until her children were grown to go after her own dreams. ![]() It was made up of 8 parts, all equal in size, just like a pizza. During her initial tour of this location, the perfectly intact stained glass ceiling caught her attention. After stumbling upon an abandoned church on West 44th Street, where the homeless squatted and spray painted gang signs were apart of the décor, Madeline instantly saw the beauty of this old Gospel Tabernacle Church. As she walked the Crossroads of the World, she was looking for a location that was as unique as her pizza. It was then she decided Times Square would be home to the world famous John’s of Times Square. Where frightened visitors saw adult shops and violence, Madeline saw potential. The world-famous New Year's Eve confetti is released from the rooftops of buildings throughout Times Square creating a celebratory blizzard of colorful confetti as revelers welcome the New Year accompanied by colorful pyrotechnic effects.In 1995, Madeline Castellotti had a vision. At the stroke of Midnight, the Ball’s lights on are turned off as the numerals of the New Year "2019" burst to life shining high above Times Square. Sixty seconds before the big moment, the New Year’s Eve Ball begins its descent. The 2019 farewell show features a performance by pop sensations Taylor Swift! This year’s host will be national television and radio star Allison Hagendorf. Let not forget one of the most exciting parts of New Year’s in Times Square- the New Year’s Rockin’ Eve performances! The stage will come to life at around 8pm with some of your favorite musical guests. Then, the Times Square Alliance sanitation crew, clad in bright red uniforms, begins to distribute tens of thousands of fun party favors-those famous hats, glasses, and noisemakers- to the Times Square revelers to help cheer in the New Year. The Ball is lit at 6:00pm and begins its ascent accompanied by special pyrotechnic effects. The celebration begins with the lighting and raising of the New Year’s Eve Ball atop One Times Square. The Ball can best be seen along Broadway, from 43rd Street to 50th Street, and along Seventh Avenue, as far north as 59th Street, so plant to arrive early to grab the best possible spot. The blocks will be closed off as they fill up northward, street-by-street, as the police deem necessary. Your chance of getting a viewing spot near the Ball (at Broadway & 43rd Street) increases the earlier you arrive. If you are planning to come to Times Square and join in the festivities, you are advised to enter from Sixth or Eighth Avenue. As the evening progresses, revelers continue to fill the Times Square neighborhood along Broadway and Seventh Avenue moving uptown from 43rd Street to as far as Central Park. As one section fills up, the revelers are directed by police to the next viewing section. Revelers are directed by the NYPD to gather in separate viewing sections. between Broadway & 7th Ave.) is fully closed to traffic.
